America is No Longer a Land of Opportunity
At one point in time, this land was one of opportunity. However, in these recent years that namesake has become benign. The ability we once had to call it such was ruined by the conditions with which these opportunities lie. It was ruined by racism, lower incomes, and easily replaced jobs.
Racism, although we wish to deny it, is still alive in America. There are still groups and organizations who have a foul influence in the world of business. There is a widespread dislike for immigrants, particularly those of Hispanic and/or Islamic controlled nations. This has led to the mistreatment and underpayment of many honest working people.
A circle of monetary fluctuation is ever so present in America today. As more people arrive and are born in American hospitals, the needs of certain goods increase. These needs are met with an increased price and number of workers. As times change these goods are no longer considered needs and the required number of workers decreases. Instead of having a job you, as an immigrant, are given a job you will most likely lose. You’re caught in a loop, not given an opportunity.
Another so called ‘opportunity’ is the jobs with easily replaceable workers. This meaning entry level or manual labor jobs. These jobs are often given to immigrants and those with minimum or low education because they require little to no training. However, these jobs will often come with lower incomes. The people who come to America don’t always come alone. They have families to support and they can’t do so with such an ‘opportunity’.
America has lost the ability, nay, the right to call itself a ‘Land of Opportunity’. We are no longer a glowing beacon of hope. We are now merely a flicker. It pains me to say this but, Ralph Waldo Emerson, the America you once knew, is dead.
