Throughout the school year I have used several new forms of electronic presentations and literary forms. Unlike what I have done in the past, my portfolio is online (obviously). Using "weebly.com", I was able to format, type, and publish my very own website.
As you saw on the Archetype Hype page i previously used a "prezi" in an effort to outline the basic characteristics of Greek-Roman culture. This site allows you to present information in a moving text-picture design, much like a PowerPoint. Also like a PowerPoint, a design is chosen and pictures and/or text are added. Simple design and beautiful execution. This form of presentation seems extremely helpful for showing future employers that I can present information in an alternate way. During the creation of our Independent Reading Project Pages, my teacher pointed us to a website that produces "word clouds" when key words are entered. These words are then combined with many color schemes and designs. This makes the word cloud appear artistic in a rudimentary way. It is called wordle.net. This website does create wonderful designs, however I can only find a single future use for it. Theoretically it could be used on a presentation or paper as a splash of color on a otherwise bland piece of paper. True this would help slightly after the fact but it would also look somewhat unprofessional. I feel I should give a small mention to a site known as grammarly.com. This site takes a passage of work and compares it to other works in the official database. This was used during our production of the Siddhartha page. The teacher checked our work with her own example and used grammarly to check it against sites that would give you an already written literary analysis such as sparknotes.com. Fair warning, this site does cost money. On a non-technology note, this year I have furthered my knowledge of the literary analysis. I have always done such things in my head but I haven't done it in such a way where it can easily be put on paper. This will help me on future required reading assignments, however i do not see how i will be able to use this process in other formats. The only possible aspect i can think of is if i were to change my field of work to something that focuses on the more literary form of art. Regarding the creation of my portfolio there were some problems. There were the occasional problems with design. Color clash and text placement were troubling. I wanted my portfolio to be both visually appealing and informative. Admittedly, I avoided the most troubling problem for the longest time. I ignored the grammatical and spelling errors the longest because they seemed the most irrelevant to the project completion. I would give myself an overall grade of ninety-two, but that is just my opinion. |
Self-evaluation of the Individual Student Portfolio
1)Evaluate your portfolio. How successfully do you feel you have created, edited, and revised your portfolio this year? Please use specific reasons and evidence to support your evaluation.
I give myself an overall grade of 92%. I have edited and re-edited and re-edited this portfolio multiple times. I am, however, concerned with the grammar and spelling errors because this site's spell correct is flawed. 2) What did you learn about the writing process through completion of your portfolio? Be specific. As I have stated earlier I learned more about the process of literary analysis. I have also learned that when writing something you know will be read by others, try to have those people in mind. For this portfolio, I tried to write in a fashion that would show professional demeanor and an occasional sense of humor. I knew this would be looked at by people i respect and wanted to seem professional and also show my personality through humor. 3) How did your interpretation of readings inform or affect your writing process? When writing summaries I realized that it is important to mention important parts even if they are not liked or favorable to me. 4) How will this affect your approach to future readings and writing assignments? My essays will be more detailed thanks to the work i had to do for Siddhartha. I also believe that my literary analysis will become even more elaborate. 5) What piece did you most enjoy creating ? Which piece did you least enjoy writing? Why? There is some diversity on which I enjoyed most. Dracula was my favorite story to read and interpret. However, I found Lord of the Flies was the easiest to write. Siddhartha was my least favorite to write. Mostly because I dislike for essay writing. The secondary reason is because I have a general dislike for religious novels as well. 6) How do you believe you may be able to use the digital portfolio process in the future? The portfolios that could possibly be made on weebly are quite numerous. I believe that if I am to use weebly again, it will be for other educational purposes. I also think l that it can be used as a work project portfolio. I believe this because of the both professional and desired appeal of the appearance of these portfolios. |
