Riddle Me This...
My Best Pieces? |

Trends and Patterns? |
A trend in my woks that I noticed years ago is that I am heavily reliant on imagery. I want nothing more than to take my readers to the same place I'm thinking of when I write, but at the same time leave it up for another's interpretation. I want the words to fly off the page and take you somewhere entirely new. For example, in "A Place of Peace" I write, "A place of luxury, A place of extravagancy. Of wonders unknown,Of beautiful experiences." Though not directly spoken of, perhaps you had a place in mind. Were there chandeliers? Perhaps an elegant fountain? Though I don't speak of them that is what I saw. However the feeling and images of what those words gave you is all I'm looking for. In "What is life?" it comes as, "Our fog lifts and we see. Under duress, Under control, We see light, We see clearly." Here I see a great thick fog rising slowly, then all at once. I choose to believe that is because it is how I view the regaining of control or clarity. If you saw otherwise, perhaps that too is an insight into your views on life. I also show the repetition of describing an object or concept, introducing them exclusively even though they are all related. In "A Place of Peace" this is more prevalent. "A Place of Peace", "A gift in tragedy", "A Path between Worlds". In "What is life it is more indirect leaving "A Siren's Call", and "The Devil's Gifts" as the two main examples.
These same things however, can also be seen as my greatest weaknesses. I try very hard to show these things in all of my work because I want to entice a certain specific reaction out of readers. However, every person sees the world differently. Too much imagery or description and nothing its left for the imagination. Thereby taking some of the joy away from the reader. The last thing on earth that I want is to become an author that is well known, for being an unbearable read in an English class. |
New Abilities? |
Over the school year, I have lost my needs to both please everyone and to give what is expected. Though not entirely, i feel like I've gained a Vonnegut view on my writing style. Knowing my own history long the subject, I'm very proud of myself and the growth I've made in that area.
